If you have not yet heard of or seen these gorgeous Handmade Physie Dolls by Lisa Rubbo then take a look at what can only be described as a labour of love!!
It was nearing Christmas time in the Rubbo household when Lisa had been busy making Christmas decorations. Since her daughter was a physie girl she decided to create a physie doll Christmas decoration to add to the tree as a memento of the year that was. This then became a second doll which was gifted to her daughter’s physie teacher.
The following year Lisa’s idea quickly took off as the demand for her physie doll keyring’s grew. These unique keepsakes for physie girls were a hit!
Ramarkably, Lisa lives with rheumatoid arthritis. Although she keeps her hands active as an important way to relieve the symptoms associated with her condition, over time the problem escalated. A serious infection resulted in Lisa requiring surgery on her hands. As she recovered Lisa had a realisation. “I needed to make something which was easier to hold as I stitched. And so the physie keyrings became Physie Dolls!” Lisa explained.
These beautiful keepsakes have become incredibly popular with physie girls. With such attention to detail in each handmade doll it’s easy to see why Lisa’s home is full of felt, threads and pins!
As a child, Lisa was taught by her mother and grandmother to cross stitch. “To be honest, I am hoping my daughter’s physie teacher lost that first doll when she moved house! It was a bit of a shocker!” She confessed.
Lisa has been amazed by the popularity of her Physie Dolls. “I love to receive photographs of the girls with their dolls. The excitement on their faces is priceless! It really is my hope that girls will enjoy the dolls as a keepsake for years to come.”
Each doll is made to be one of a kind. The leotard design and the colour and style of each doll’s hair, eye’s, skin colour and number can be made especially. “These dolls are made to be treasured! I probably wouldn’t consider these as toys to play with but as a special collector’s item for a physie girl to enjoy for years to come.”
There is no doubt in my mind that each Physie Doll is indeed a labour of love.
I now have a sudden desire to start a physie doll collection!
