Each year a new set of routines is choreographed to a new soundtrack. The meticulously choreographed physie syllabus is then released to teachers who go on to learn the routines in preparation to teach at class.
The syllabus includes a variety of styles of dance. Some are soft and flowing. Others are strong and controlled. Your teacher will explain the names and the differences in each routine. These routines will be learned and may take up to two terms to know confidently. You can read more on how to memorise your routines here.
Each age groups routines get progressively more challenging and require attention to detail for those who are aiming to compete. If you are returning to physie you will become familiar with many steps or positions that were in previous years routines. But a new set of routines keeps the mind and body engaged as well as keeps us enthusiastic!
Each routine is relatively short. Often only a minute to two minutes in length, depending on your age and ability. Over the course of the year students will learn to detail these routines in preparation for the competition season.
Once the steps are learned in class you will receive a copy of your syllabus DVD which will contain all the routines for you to practice along with at home.
